BJA Exclusive Luncheon: The Future of Europe - A Conversation with Count Herman Van Rompuy
Former European Council President Herman Van Rompuy sharing his views on the future of Europe
At an historic juncture in the history of the European Union, the former European Council President will share with us his views on the future of Europe during a luncheon organized by the Belgium-Japan Association & Chamber of Commerce.
Count Van Rompuy became the first full-time President of the European Council in November 2009 in the midst of the financial crisis which shook the world economy and Europe alike. An economist by training and a consensus-builder in politics, he managed to navigate the EU in these difficult times through very rough waters.
While facing today different challenges than during the financial crisis, Europe still needs pragmatic, future-oriented and confident leadership. President Emeritus Van Rompuy can provide that type of advice based on his profound knowledge of the internal processes within the EU and his inborn capacity to generate middle ground in complex situations.
The Japanese Ambassador to the EU, HE Mr. Kazuo Kodama, will briefly respond with a Japanese point of view on Europe’s future.
