Shaping the future of international personal data transfers: the Schrems II judgment of the Court of Justice of the European Union
The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) acknowledges the free movement of personal data within the European Union (EU), while it restricts transfers of personal data to countries outside the EU. The rationale for this restriction is to en- sure the protection afforded by the GDPR within the EU travels with the data and continues to apply regardless of where the data lands.
