From 18 October 2025 until 15 February 2026, the famous Félicien Rops Museum in Namur will welcome the exhibition Japoniaiseries. Fantaisies japonaises au temps de Félicien Rops.
This exhibition explores the fascination of 19th-century artists with Japan, focusing on its transition from Edo to Meiji periods. It highlights the influence of Japanese art, especially ukiyo-e prints, on European artists, including Félicien Rops. The show traces Rops’ engagement with Japanese motifs, techniques, and the broader Japonisme movement, blending critique with admiration. Works from Rops and his contemporaries, alongside authentic Japanese objects, reveal how these cultural exchanges shaped modern art.
You are cordially invited to join the opening of the exhibition on 18 October from 13:30 until 18:00, where you will be able to attend concerts, workshops*, free guided tours etc. The entrance will be free on that day.
