L’air et l’être, a solo exhibition by Japanese artist Yuko Nakaya

To inaugurate its new exhibition space at 130 rue Berthelot in Forest, Brussels, Arielle d’Hauterives – Women & Art presents L’air et l’être, a solo exhibition by Japanese artist Yuko Nakaya, from 17 September to 24 October 2026.

Through monumental oil paintings and an immersive installation, Yuko Nakaya explores the origins of life, the maternal body, memory and the condition of being. Built up through successive layers of paint and a process of gradually erasing forms, her works evolve at the threshold between figuration and abstraction.

In her installations, the artist draws on the Japanese concept of “Ma”, which gives particular importance to intervals and space. Light, air and natural elements interact with the architecture to create an experience that is both physical and contemplative.
Conceived as a dialogue between Japan and Belgium, L’air et l’être invites visitors to a sensory experience in which painting, space and presence come together.
