ARTONOV Festival 2026 – Focus on Japan
From 4 to 23 October 2026, the ARTONOV Festival will present a programme rich in new creations and Brussels premieres. In 2026, Belgium and Japan celebrate 160 years of diplomatic and cultural relations. Belgian, Japanese and European artists will come together through around ten projects combining exhibitions, dance, music and performance. Each work reflects, in its own way, on what we pass on, transform and reinvent through dialogue with others.
As always, the ARTONOV Festival will unfold across a range of Art Nouveau and heritage sites throughout Brussels, from the Uccle Cultural Centre to Usquare, with stops at Hôtel Winssinger, Maison Pelgrims and Hôtel Van Eetvelde.
This edition places particular emphasis on artists and artistic practices from Japan, offering an insight into both the richness of contemporary Japanese creativity and centuries-old traditions.
Among the highlights, the butoh dance company Dairakudakan will present ASURA, a creation by Naomi Muku inspired by the Buddhist concept of transformation and produced with the support of the Japan Foundation.
The immersive project Résonances au Temple Mii-Dera will bring together musicians and six monks from Mii-dera Temple for an experience combining ritual chants, poetry, incense and visual projections.
