Three calligraphy demonstration workshops with renowned artist Dr. Carla Salem as part of KU Leuven Inside (February 15-16, 2025)

Carla Salem is a renowned artist from Lebanon who holds a PhD from Tokyo University of the Arts. In 2014, she was awarded the Boghossian Foundation Prize in Brussels. She is one of the few artists who merges Japanese and Arab calligraphy in here beautiful art. Also her work as art restorer and conservator (often using Japanese washi to restore damaged art all over the world) is renowned. She has won acclaim for her efforts in art and heritage preservation in the aftermath of the Beirut Harbor Explosion Incident 2020 and is now a leading specialist for heritage preservation techniques in times of war and natural disasters. She has worked for Louvre Abu Dhabi, is currently residing in Newcastle, UK, and also was recently invited by the National Museum of Japanese History in Sakura, Japan, to study Japanese heritage preservation techniques and to exchange knowledge about art preservation after natural disasters.

During the three demonstration workshops during the KU Leuven Inside (February 15-16) she will introduce calligraphy techniques from Arab world and from Japan and give demonstrations of merging both. It is a rare opportunity - don't miss it! Register via the link below.
