31st JAPANESE SPEECH CONTEST in Belgium
  • Application deadline: FRI. 18th October 2024

  • Final contest date: SAT. 23rd November 2024
  • Final contest venue: The Japanese School of Brussels (Avenue des Meuniers 133, 1160 Brussels)
Non-Japanese residents of Belgium and neighboring countries who do not meet the following criteria
  • Native speakers of Japanese
  • The person who has previously won the Category B of this competition
There are two categories. Please choose your application category.
  • Category A (Beginner):There are no speaking assignments. Please join the fun and speak your thoughts in 3 minutes or less. There will be no Q&A session.
  • Category B (Intermediate - Proficient): Please speak about cultural exchange, customs, recent events, or anything related to Japan. Please include a brief self-introduction and give your thoughts in 5 minutes or less. After your speech, there will be a 2-minute Q&A session.
For your reference, we envision the following applicants in each category.
  • Category A (Beginner)  : People who have studied Japanese for only a short term or have no experience staying in Japan.
  • Category B (Intermediate - Proficient): People who are (or were) studying Japanese at university, have studied in Japan, or have equivalent Japanese language skills.
  • The winner will be selected from Category A and B, respectively.
  • The final winner of the contest will be selected from Category B, and the winner will receive a round-trip flight ticket to Japan as a prize. All participants can also receive gifts.
  • Prior to the final contest, there will be a pre-screening.
  • In judging the speech contest, in order to expand opportunities to learn Japanese and to promote cultural exchange between Japan and Belgium, as well as to maintain the fairness of the awards, applicants who have spent a long period of time in an environment where Japanese is used (e.g., several years in Japan) will be taken into consideration.
  • Cultural exchange attractions (Japanese Drum and Chorus) will be performed during the contest.
